About Us
At the end of 2009, the NHS withdrew from ‘Als Cafe’, due to cut backs. This social club that provided help and a meeting point for people with dementia was scheduled to close.
So in February of 2010 a group of passionate members held a meeting at ‘The Chase’ Hotel in Nuneaton to decide how to proceed with the cafe has a socially run club for dementia patients and their carers. As talks continued, a meeting was held in March that year for anyone who wanted to form a steering group to continue running the club.
Five people volunteered at the meeting and agreed on away forward. The club was given its new name and image, Bess Bedford was chosen as Chairperson, Gordon Nash as Treasurer, Veronica Hartopp as secretary and 2 other committee members. It was decided that the club was to run for a three month trial period. Thirteen years later the club is going strong and recognised as an important part of the social community for people with dementia.
Alz Lunchtime Club offers a variety of social activities for people with dementia and their carers. Like minded people are able to relax once a month at lunchtime. During the year several day trips out are arranged for club members offer a enjoyable day out with friends.
Our aim is to provide social environment for people with dementia, their carers and ex-carers. You are welcome to come along to one of our meetings, you’ll find details of our next meeting on the website home page – we look forward to seeing you there.
