ALZ Lunchtime Club

Welcome to our webpage,  ‘ALZ Lunchtime Club’ is a social group where you will be accepted and understood. You will meet people in a similar situation to yourself and enjoy friendly chats over tea or coffee.

We care about your Health and Well being, throughout the year members enjoy quizzes, beetle drives, games of bingo, and gentle seated exercise, along with narrow-boat trips on the all-new electric Hargreaves II; visits to farm shops and garden centres are also arranged.

We aim to offer information, peer support and activities for people with dementia, their carers and ex-carers too.

Alz Lunchtime Club has a new home.

‘Alz’ first meeting at Horeston Grange Church was in January 2023.  A lovely warm venue for the Winter months.  A well equipped  kitchen, comfortable seats and a disabled toilet.  The room is spacious for events.

Day Out on the Narrowboat

The club likes to use the Hagreaves II Narrowboat . An all electric boat specially designed for  disabled people.  It has a lift for ease of boarding,  plus a disabled toilet to accommodate a wheelchair.  Tea making equipped.  There is a trip to Hawksbury Junction where a lunch at The Greyhound can be enjoyed before the return journey or to Atherstone Top Lock where Fish & Chips can be had on board.

10 Years Old

The April 2020 meeting was  to be our 10th Anniversary celebration till Covid pandemic struck and closed everything down.  So our celebration was re-arranged for September 19th 2022.  Yet again this was cancelled due to the  Queen’s State funeral.   Third time lucky,  our 10th Celebration took place on Monday 17th October 2022

Out for lunch

Besides Narrowboat trips, a farm shop or garden centre visit with a cafe for lunch, before a spending spree if desired.  Travelling from Horeston Grange Church on the Volunteer Friends minibus to the venue and returning by the bus to the church.

Introducing our Robotic Dementia Cat

Dementia patients frequently become agitated, anxious and frustrated. Research has shown that an effective, drug-free way to soothe and ease a dementia patient is to give them a soft toy they can interact with.

Our dementia cat, ‘Tiddles’ has bought joy and purpose to many people with dementia. The Dementia Cat moves, nuzzles, meows, and rolls over for tummy rubs.
